Jonathan Barkat grew up along the shore in Cape May at the southern tip of New Jersey. His love of light began there, as many moments were spent watching the light as it moved around the ocean, dunes, and wetlands as well as amusement piers, boardwalks, and seaside attractions. The atmosphere and mood of the area played a large part in shaping how he sees the world and continues to be an influence as he turns the camera to the people around him.
There is nothing ordinary about Jonathan’s images. Whether shooting portraits, locations or people who seem to be just living their life, Jonathan’s visuals are crafted with care. Working from concept out, Jonathan fills his imagery with atmosphere and his visuals are often driven by the light he loves.
A sought after talent, Jonathan’s work has graced the pages of some of our nations top publications including: O, The Oprah Magazine and Billboard Magazine. His advertising campaign work for corporate giants includes imagery for clients Pfizer and Prudential and his continued book cover art for publishers Penguin Random House and Macmillan rounds out a diverse client list.
Jonathan’s work has been recognized by Communication Arts, Photo District News, The Society of Publication Designers, and the International Photography Awards.
